Festus flashes might, Windsor wins in rally at Class 5 District 1 baseball quarters

(Festus) The Festus Tigers and Windsor Owls moved on to the Class 5 District 1 baseball semifinals after winning Monday on KJFF.

In the first quarterfinal, Festus knocked off the North County Raiders 8-1.

The Tigers were swinging hot bats early.

Festus scored 3 runs in each of the first 2 innings.

When the offense slowed down, Tiger junior pitcher Ian Brown turned his play up.

Brown finished with 8 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits and 3 walks in a complete-game victory to earn Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

While Festus wins its eighth straight to improve to 23-8, North County’s season ends with a record of 5-14.

In game number two, Windsor topped the Sikeston Bulldogs 4-3.

Windsor lead 1-0 early but gave the lead away in the top of the third inning.

The Owls responded in the bottom half.

From there on, Windsor pitching shut the door, with Owls sophomore Lukas Weiler closing the door completely.

Weiler got a 5-out save after junior Greg West went 5-plus innings and struck out seven in the Owls’ win.

Windsor moves to 18-11 and joins Festus in the Class 5 District 1 semifinals Thursday night.
