South Windsor food distributor awarded nearly $50M DOD contract
South Windsor-based food distributor Hartford Provision Co., which does business as HPC Food Service, was awarded a four-year, $49.5 million contract from the Department of Defense to distribute food to military establishments in southern New England.
That contract is new, co-President Jim Charbonneau said, but HPC is the incumbent having provided the southern New England area with food distribution over the past four years. Charbonneau also pointed out that $49.5 million is the highest amount the DOD could pay — including in the event of an emergency — not the amount they will likely pay.
“It’s not $50 million,” Charbonneau said. “What that is, is a maximum dollar value of the contract.”
A big portion of the contract involves delivering food for dining areas at Navy bases in Groton, and Newport, RI, Charbonneau said.
