What’s open and closed Labour Day in Windsor-Essex?


The summer holidays unofficially end on Labor Day. With that, most government employees and some businesses will be off on Monday.

All federal, provincial, and municipal government offices will be closed on Monday, as Labor Day is a federal statutory holiday. There will be no Canada Post delivery.

Provincially, Service Ontario offices are closed Monday. Residents can still perform certain transactions online, such as some driver license renewals.

All banks, credit unions, and financial institutions are closed Monday.

All LCBO locations are closed Monday. Select locations of The Beer Store will be open on Monday, mainly in the City of Windsor, Tecumseh, and Leamington, with hours from 11 am to 6 pm

All four of the public school boards serving Windsor-Essex will start classes on Tuesday.

At the University of Windsor, law and consecutive education students begin classes Tuesday. The rest of the student body starts the fall semester Thursday. At St. Clair College, all classes begin Tuesday at the south Windsor, downtown Windsor, and Chatham campuses.

Devonshire Mall will be open on Labor Day from 11 am to 6 pm Tecumseh Mall is open 11 am to 5 pm, while Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall in LaSalle is open 10 am to 6 pm

All Windsor Public Library branches and all Essex County Library branches are closed Monday.

The 311 call center will be closed Monday, and be open from 8 am to 4 pm Tuesday. Some 311 services can be accessed online. The 211 phone line will be answered throughout Windsor-Essex 24 hours a day as usual.

Residential garbage, recycling and yard waste collection in Windsor will not take place Monday and will be delayed one day. Night commercial collection and weekly recycling will proceed as usual. The public garbage and household chemical waste drop-off depot at Central Ave. and EC Row will be closed, but open Tuesday from 8 am to 5 pm Please refer to your waste collection calendar for more information.

All indoor community centers and arenas in the City of Windsor are closed on Labor Day, with the exception of previously-scheduled rentals or events. The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H-4) at Windsor Water World will be open Monday from 8:30 am to 6 pm

Sandpoint Beach and all outdoor pools in Windsor are now closed for the season. At Lakeview Park Marina, the launch ramps will be open from 6 am to 8 pm, and the customer service office and fuel dock from 8 am to 8 pm

Adventure Bay Family Water Park is closed Monday, along with the Chimczuk Museum and Francois Baby House.

There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday, and all metered street parking will be free. Parking lots and garages will be paid as usual. All parking enforcement offices are closed, but payments can still be made online.

Transit Windsor buses will run on the Sunday and holiday schedule Monday, and all buses return to full-service Tuesday. The tunnel bus to Detroit is closed until further notice. The terminal on Chatham Street West will be open from 8 am to 4 pm, but the sales office on North Service Road will be closed.
