Windsor car dealership donates $3,000 to local charity

A local car dealership is donating more than $3,000 to help low-income families in the northern Colorado region.

Peak Kia North in Windsor announced it raised $3,020 through a selling campaign to help single-parent families in Larimer County. It will donate the money to Project Self-Sufficiency, which is designed to help residents experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Sales team president Kerry Kennicut committed to donate $20 for every car sold during March. The company then committed to donating $100 per sale to the overall donation amount.

The money will be used by the organization to support families with educational scholarships, rent assistance, childcare funding, transportation and other financial needs. Funding helps Project Self-Sufficiency give residents access to education and career development.

Each year, the program is able to help about 160 families. These households earn less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. About 56% of assistance recipients are homeless.

“Support from our community partners is what makes it possible for us to remove barriers for single parents and helps to create a stronger tomorrow for Larimer County,” Tracy Mead, executive director at Project Self-Sufficiency, said in a statement. “We’re thankful for this significant donation from Peak Kia North to benefit families in need with resources like childcare, housing, mental health support, transportation, and more.”
